FINISHED WORK of CHRIST

Greetings to you all in Christ name!

Firstly I thank God for this opportunity for using me as the medium to remind you and refresh you about the work of Christ.

When Jesus said “IT IS FINISHED”-John 19:30, He intended so many meanings.
Basically, It is FINISHED means, It is COMPLETED, It is ACCOMPLISHED, It is DONE.

We see in every sermon, every church, every Christian gathering, every Sunday, we discuss about this FINISHED WORK OF CHRIST and every Believer and every Christian will have the hope of  eternal life based on this FINISHED WORK of CHRIST on the cross.

“IT IS FINISHED” John 19:30

Every Christian will adore HIS work, admire HIS work, appreciate HIS work, the work which Jesus has finished on the cross, ultimately to have an association with God.

Before we read, we pray and request God to give us heart to understand Christ’s majestic work on the Cross. And to help us to prepare our hearts to reciprocate according to that,

In the first three words on the Cross, Jesus talks about HIS concerns about others. And in 4th, 5th and 7th Word, He talks about Himself and His association and relationship with God.

But in the 6th word, Jesus talks especially about HIS Work, His Task, His assignment, his purpose, the Unique distinct nature of this word is about HIS passion for the Human kind.
The sixth word “IT IS FINISHED” is a Polysemy meaning the coexistence of many possible meanings for a sentence or phrase.
Let’s look at some of the meanings this Polysemy-IT IS FINISHED.

When Jesus said “It is finished”, means “The Demonstration of love for this World” is finished
Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates HIS own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

When Jesus said It is finished, means “Opening the Gate to heaven IS FINISHED.(
Micah 2-13 & Hebrews 10:19(NLT)

19 And so, dear brothers and sisters,[a] we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus.

Restoration, Re-establishment of connection, & Reconciliation is finished.

(2 Corinthians 5:19)

For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation.

When Jesus said It is finished, means Atonement is finished.- Prāyaścittamu(ప్రాయశ్చిత్తము)
To understand Atonement, we need to meditate on the following verses:
·         (Leviticus 16:29-30; 23:27-28)
·         (Leviticus 16:27)
·         (Leviticus 17:11)
·         (Hebrews 9:22).

And many other meanings such as

  • HIS Passion is finished/completed.

  • Remission is finished.

  • The work is accomplished.

  • The Mission is accomplished.

  • The Leading by Example is finished,

  • The modeling as a man is fulfilled.

  • Sins are forgiven

  •  Ransom has been paid.

And many more meanings which we do not know unless HE reveals to us, are finished.

And when He finished this work, I believe that Jesus was very happy, He was content and He was satisfied when HE said these words.

Jesus not only uttered the words, "It is finished," he shouted them as a conqueror, a victor and as a triumphant.
In Matt. 27:50; Mark 15:37 and Luke 23:46 we see that Jesus Cried with a loud voice.

In the History we hear that even Alexander the Great, who conquered the whole world, was not happy when he died.

So Jesus is the Real Conqueror of Destiny

And Even in that moment as a conqueror, he never loses HIS Love, Nature, Character, Humbleness and especially his Human nature not even by 0.0001%

He didn’t say "Look at Me! I have done it! I am the victor! I did it!"  He Glorified God.  He said IT IS FINISHED” not I finished, he never take credit for himself.

And…
What work Jesus has finished?
 What assignment Jesus has finished?
And What task has completed?

1 Peter 1:19-20 – “He paid for you with the precious lifeblood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God. God chose Him for this purpose long before the world began, but now in these final days, He was sent to the earth for all to see. And He did this for you.”

Here we see God chose Christ for this work, long before Adam and Eve were made and before every creation.
This was Jesus main task, the responsibility given to Jesus, the sole and specific purpose why he had been sent to earth.

Here Jesus is saying to His Father “It is finished that long before we have planned, long before we have thought about this, long before we have decided on this project….”

That work is finished now.

Long before Jesus was born, God Provided a Road map, with various signs and conditions, through the Prophecies from the Prophets in the Old Testament.

And Jesus is saying, Father, what we said by using the Prophets, in the old Testaments is finished.

Jesus is saying that Fulfillment of prophesies is finished. What Micah, Jeremiah, Isaiah, Moses, King David Psalms, Zechariah, Old Testament saying and all are finished.
